Temperature Sensors and Thermistors

A thermistor is a type of resistor used to measure temperature changes, relying on the change in its resistance with changing temperature. Thermistor is a portmanteau word from the words thermal and resistor.

PTC Metrologycalibrates thermistors against a standard platinum resistance thermometer (SPRT) using mostly Hart Scientific baths, comparators and calibrators. We use several different techniques to minimize uncertainties while maximizing efficiency to keep the costs as low as possible without compromising quality. PTC Metrology® is the laboratory of choice for many of our customers because they know that they can depend on us for correct, complete, and on-time calibrations at reasonable prices.

PTC® uses different temperature sources over a wide range to provide the highest quality and reliability on all of its calibration certificates. The temperature sources for thermistor calibration are listed in the table below.

Temperature Source
Liquid Baths
Temperature °C
-75°C to 300°C
Temperature °F
-103°F to 572°F
Probe Length

PTC is Accredited by A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 (NIST Traceable)
